Clinicians working on the firing line with the wounded families of clients experiencing major behavioral health disorders often struggle to engage family members in a way that promotes sustainable system change. Frequently, we get caught up in the family’s identified patient (IP) myth: “Fix him and all will be fine.” Similarly, as family members move toward embracing their own work, projections onto the clinician fuel counter-transference reactions which can derail the work or weaken therapeutic alliances (including with the patient). Join Dr. Kenneth Perlmutter and a group of gifted colleagues for three days of experiential, didactic, theoretical and practical learning in order to:

  • Expand your agency’s repertoire of family program offerings
  • Employ a theoretical grounding to generate diagnostic formulations that support systems thinking and promotes system balance
  • Better manage difficult interactions with family members and around the boundaries of the treatment process (payments, agreements, preventing AMAs)
  • Make use of counter-transference to keep the work on track and avoid burnout

CEs are provided by The MindTherapy Clinic which is co-sponsoring this program and is an approved Board of Behavioral Sciences Provider (BBS). CEs for psychologists and nurses are provided by The Spiritual Competency Resource Center which is co-sponsoring this program and is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
